Love at First Sip......

For as long as I can remember I have had a love hate relationship with coffee. I can’t quite remember when it began, perhaps it was during my first “real office job” but over the years, my addiction has only grown worse. If I do have to get up early, a cup of java is exactly what I need. Some of my co-workers have actually told me they will wait for me to get through my first cup before approaching me. Hey, it's not my fault that perky morning people are completely annoying! Okay, maybe it is time for me to admit my addiction and make some changes to my eating habits. Maybe I'll even save some money in the process.
I’m on week one and so far so blah. How can a simple drink affect my mood so drastically? I can actually feel the frown lines developing on my forehead…..ughh! My first day sans coffee, no one seemed to have anything interesting to say and all I wanted to do was crawl back into bed. By mid afternoon, the dull headache was setting in and I almost ran down to the coffee cart for a fix. I reminded myself that part of the reason I was trying this little experiment was to save money and decided the headache would go away and I’d rather save the money.
When did coffee become so appealing? I remember taking a sip of grandma's folgers coffee and thinking nothing in the world could possibly taste worse. Has it just become the hip thing to do? You head to a coffee shop, read a book or study with all the other "intellectuals". For me it's been the sweet yummy lattes.....a bad combination for a caffeine addict with a sweet tooth. Damn you starbucks!
Alright I'm starting to rant, it might be time for me to drink some green tea....yum (sarcastic tone) and make it through another coffee free day.
Signing off until next time.....

  1. Do you like Chai? I love green tea, but also find it boring. Good for you for trying. We all have our vices... if it's to save money, how about brewing your own? My favorite routine of the day is starting my mini four cup coffee pot before I get into the shower. I don't end up drinking it all-- which means I'm pretty much wasting half a bag of coffee in the end, but that's all I usually allow myself every day. Then it's maybe a pick me up green tea, Chai, or vanilla chai later in the day. Good luck prima! Stick with it and once it's out of your system you won't miss it... ok, I'm totally lying.

    p.s.
Another great tea is yerba mate. It also curbs your appetite. A bit of an acquired taste, but a good replacement for the joe.
